UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESS

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SMP & PERMANENT MAKEUP

Scalp micropigmentation and permanent makeup are forms of cosmetic tattooing that use specialized pigments implanted into the skin using advanced techniques and sterile, single-use equipment.

Results are achieved through a process that may require multiple sessions to obtain the desired outcome. Pigment retention varies from person to person and can be affected by factors including skin type, age, overall health, medications, hormones, smoking, sun exposure, chlorine exposure, and adherence to aftercare instructions.

Follow-up appointments are included to refine and perfect your results. Additional sessions beyond the included follow-up appointments may incur additional fees.

BOOKING POLICIES & FAQS

If you already have permanent makeup or scalp micropigmentation performed by another technician and feel it may need correction, photos must be submitted before scheduling.

Please take clear photographs outdoors in natural light and include a front view along with both side views. Text the photos to (831) 251-7229 along with your name and the approximate date your procedure was performed. All submissions are reviewed before determining whether corrective work is appropriate. Calls and text messages are typically returned within 24 hours between client appointments.

Scalp micropigmentation and permanent makeup are both processes that may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired result. Follow-up appointments are included to help refine, adjust, and perfect your treatment.

You may require additional color, density, undertone adjustments, or other refinements during the healing process. It is important to attend your scheduled follow-up appointments and any recommended additional sessions to achieve the best possible outcome.

Over time, pigments naturally fade and lighten. Additional maintenance or refresh sessions may be recommended in the future to keep your SMP or permanent makeup looking its best.

Additional sessions beyond the agreed-upon follow-up appointments may incur additional charges. Please refer to the Services section of this website for current pricing information.

Every client heals differently, and pigment retention varies from person to person. Factors that may affect retention include overall health, age, skin density, hydration levels, smoking, medications, hormones, previous permanent makeup procedures, sun exposure, chlorine exposure, exfoliating products, and adherence to aftercare instructions.

SMP typically provides immediate visible results. Mild redness may occur immediately following treatment and generally subsides within 24–48 hours.

Permanent makeup procedures may initially appear darker, bolder, or less natural than the final healed result. This is a normal part of the healing process. Pigment will gradually soften, lighten, and shed during the first several days. Most clients begin to enjoy their healed results within approximately 8–10 days, although healing may continue for several weeks.

After your treatment, it is important to keep the procedure area clean and follow all aftercare instructions provided.

The permanent makeup area may take two weeks or longer to heal, with continued healing and color stabilization occurring over the following weeks.

If you suspect an infection or experience unusual healing concerns, contact your physician immediately and notify The Micropigment Studio regarding the diagnosis and treatment outcome so the information may be documented in your file.

To help preserve your results, use a quality sunscreen on treated areas and avoid excessive sun exposure. Clients with eyeliner procedures should wear sunglasses when exposed to direct sunlight.

Over time, permanent makeup may develop unwanted undertones due to sun exposure, skin changes, lifestyle factors, and the natural aging of pigments.

In many cases, unwanted undertones can be corrected through color correction procedures. Depending on the situation, pigment may also be lightened, adjusted, or removed before applying a new color.

Several removal options are available, including laser removal and other pigment removal techniques. Treatment recommendations will vary based on the existing pigment and desired outcome.

If you have concerns about pigment sensitivity or allergies, you may request a patch test before treatment.

Patch testing can help identify potential sensitivities and provide additional peace of mind before proceeding with your procedure.

If you ever require an MRI, you must inform the technician that you have permanent makeup.

Permanent cosmetic pigments may contain inert iron oxides, and in rare cases some individuals may experience a mild tingling or burning sensation during an MRI. MRI technicians are familiar with these situations and can take any necessary precautions.

According to current Red Cross guidelines, blood donation may not be permitted for one year following a cosmetic tattoo procedure.

If physician care is required following treatment, please notify The Micropigment Studio of the diagnosis and resolution so that this information may be included in your client records.

A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your procedure appointment and secure treatment time in the schedule.

Accepted payment methods include credit cards (service fees may apply), Zelle, PayPal, cash, and local checks with valid identification.

SMP treatment payments may be split into three or four payments when appropriate. The remaining balance for permanent makeup procedures is due on the day of treatment unless financing or payment arrangements have been made in advance.

Financing options are available for qualified clients.

A minimum of 48 hours' notice is required to cancel or reschedule a procedure appointment. Failure to provide sufficient notice may result in forfeiture of your deposit and require a new deposit before another appointment can be scheduled.

Complimentary in-person consultations require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for cancellation. Failure to provide notice may require a deposit before another consultation can be booked.

If you are not feeling well or are experiencing symptoms of illness, including COVID-related symptoms, please contact the studio to reschedule your appointment.

Please arrive on time for your scheduled appointment. If you arrive late, treatment time may need to be shortened to avoid affecting other clients' appointments.

Time is scheduled between clients to properly sanitize and prepare the treatment area while maintaining health and safety standards.

The first two follow-up appointment reschedules are generally accommodated when at least 48 hours' notice is provided. If you need to reschedule a third consecutive follow-up appointment, future appointments may need to be booked on a same-day call-in basis depending on availability.

Clients who repeatedly reschedule may be placed on a waiting list. Because appointment times are reserved specifically for each client, missed appointments may result in additional charges and require a new deposit before future appointments can be scheduled.

To check same-day availability, clients may call (831) 251-7229 between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. If no appointments are available, clients may be added to the waiting list.

Providing a personalized experience for every client is a top priority at The Micropigment Studio.

Appointments are available Monday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Calls and text messages are typically returned within 24 hours between client appointments.
