Most clients describe the sensation as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the procedure to help minimize sensitivity. Because the lips are naturally more sensitive than other areas, you may feel light pressure or a tingling sensation throughout the treatment. Pain tolerance varies from person to person, but the procedure is generally very manageable. Any tenderness usually fades shortly after the appointment.
Lip blush and permanent lip color typically last between 12–18 months, although some clients may retain color longer depending on their skin type and lifestyle. The pigment fades gradually rather than disappearing suddenly. Factors such as sun exposure, smoking, skincare products, and natural cell turnover can affect how quickly the color softens. A touch-up appointment can refresh the tone and maintain the desired look. Proper aftercare and sun protection help extend the longevity of the results.
Immediately after the treatment, the lips will appear darker and slightly swollen. This is completely normal and usually settles within a few days as the skin begins to heal. Over the following week, the lips may lightly flake and the color will soften significantly. It’s important to keep the lips moisturized and avoid picking or peeling during the healing process. The final color becomes visible about four weeks after treatment, once the skin has fully healed.
