BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE

PREPARING FOR YOUR PERMANENT MAKEUP APPOINTMENT

Proper preparation is an important part of achieving beautiful, long-lasting permanent makeup results. Before scheduling your consultation or procedure, your health history must be completed and reviewed to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for treatment. Certain medical conditions, recent surgeries, cosmetic procedures, injectables, or medications may require physician clearance or a waiting period before treatment can be performed.

If your health history changes at any time between your consultation, procedure appointment, follow-up session, or future treatments, please notify The Micropigment Studio immediately. Failure to disclose changes in your health history may require your appointment to be rescheduled and charges may apply for reserved treatment time.

Following the preparation guidelines below can help support optimal pigment retention, reduce complications, and ensure the best possible healing experience.

Before scheduling your consultation or permanent makeup procedure, you must complete a health history questionnaire to determine whether you are a suitable candidate for treatment.

Some medical conditions may require physician clearance before treatment can be performed. Cosmetic surgeries, injectables, fillers, and certain medications may also require a waiting period before your appointment.

Your health history will be reviewed prior to scheduling your consultation or procedure to determine whether additional medical clearance is required.

If any changes occur to your health history between your consultation, initial procedure, follow-up appointment, or future sessions, you must notify The Micropigment Studio immediately. Failure to disclose changes in your health history may result in your appointment being rescheduled, and charges may apply for reserved treatment time.

Please consult your physician regarding any medical conditions, recent surgeries, medications, or blood thinners that may affect your treatment.

For best pigment retention and healing:

  • Avoid aspirin for 5 days before your procedure unless otherwise directed by your physician.
  • Tylenol may be taken approximately one hour before your appointment if needed.
  • Never discontinue prescribed medications without consulting your doctor.
  • Avoid fish oil supplements, fish products, alcohol, and coffee for 24–48 hours before treatment.
  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your procedure.
  • Bring your glasses if you use them, as documents will be reviewed and signed during your appointment.
  • Avoid sunburn before and after your procedure.

These recommendations help minimize bleeding, improve pigment retention, and support proper healing.

Procedure-Specific Preparation Requirements

  • Contact lenses may not be worn during the procedure.
  • Wait 3 days after treatment before wearing contact lenses again.
  • Remove lash extensions at least one week before treatment.
  • Do not reapply lash extensions until all eyeliner appointments have been completed.
  • Discontinue lash growth products for 3 weeks before treatment.
  • If you have ever experienced cold sores or herpes outbreaks on the lips, consult your physician before treatment.
  • Obtain any recommended antiviral medication before your appointment.
  • Botox, fillers, and injectables must be discontinued at least 4 weeks before treatment.
  • Wait until all permanent makeup appointments have been completed before resuming injectables.
  • Recent surgeries performed within the last year may require physician clearance before treatment.

Discontinue exfoliating products on or around the treatment area for at least 4 weeks before treatment, including:

  • Retin-A
  • Renova
  • Glycolic Acid
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids
  • Celex-C
  • Similar exfoliating skincare products

A gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil is recommended before treatment and throughout the healing process.

Exfoliating ingredients can affect pigment retention, contribute to premature fading, and may increase the need for additional treatment sessions.

AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE

HEALING & AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Permanent makeup healing is a gradual process that requires proper aftercare to support pigment retention and achieve the best possible long-term results. During the healing period, your treated area may appear darker, lighter, or uneven as the skin naturally progresses through different stages of healing.

Following your aftercare instructions carefully can help minimize irritation, support proper healing, and reduce the likelihood of needing additional touch-up sessions beyond your included follow-up appointment.

Please have the following items available at home before your appointment:

  • Unopened distilled water
  • Q-tips
  • Compressed cotton pads

Aftercare ointment will be provided.

For the first 7 days, gently clean the procedure area morning and evening:

  1. Using distilled water and compressed cotton, cleanse the area with a small amount of a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil.
  2. Do not scrub.
  3. Use clean distilled water to remove any remaining cleanser.
  4. Pat dry with a tissue.
  5. Apply a very thin layer of the provided aftercare ointment.

Avoid soaking the treatment area in water, exposing it to steam, sleeping on your face, or using unclean pillowcases.

Ice packs may be applied for 10–15 minutes each hour during the first 3 hours following treatment to help reduce swelling and improve comfort.

After the first 24 hours, ice is no longer beneficial.

During healing:

  • Avoid aspirin.
  • Tylenol may be used for temporary discomfort.
  • Avoid heavy exercise and excessive sweating for 2–3 days.
  • Avoid swimming.
  • Avoid saunas, hot tubs, and jacuzzis for 7 days.

The treated area will naturally darken during the first several days as the pigment oxidizes. This is normal and expected.

As healing progresses, pigment may:

  • Darken
  • Flake
  • Peel
  • Fade
  • Appear uneven

Do not pick, scratch, or remove flaking skin.

Final healed results should not be evaluated until approximately one month after treatment.

Most healed results appear 30–45% lighter than the initial color.

Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled 4–7 weeks after treatment and are included in your procedure cost.

Following your eyeliner procedure, proper aftercare is essential to support healing and pigment retention.

  • Do not wear contact lenses during your procedure.
  • Wait at least 3 days after treatment before wearing contact lenses again.
  • Keep lash extensions off until all eyeliner appointments and follow-up sessions have been completed.
  • Do not use mascara or eyeshadow for one week following your eyeliner procedure.
  • When you resume wearing mascara, begin with a new tube to help prevent contamination.
  • You may experience slight swelling, bruising, or matting around the lashes during the healing process. This is normal.
  • Ice packs may be applied for 10–15 minutes at a time during the first 3 hours following treatment to help reduce swelling and improve comfort.
  • Avoid excessive tearing or crying before and after your procedure, as moisture can affect pigment retention.
  • Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area, as this may remove pigment and interfere with healing.
  • Protect the area from excessive sun exposure and wear sunglasses when outdoors after healing.

Lip blush procedures require additional care during the healing process to promote proper color retention and comfort.

  • If you have a history of cold sores or herpes simplex, follow your physician's recommendations regarding preventative medication before treatment.
  • Avoid kissing while the lips are healing.
  • Avoid whitening toothpaste for approximately 8–10 days after treatment.
  • Avoid hot and spicy foods during the healing period.
  • Drink beverages through a straw and use a clean straw each time.
  • Lips may feel tight, tender, dry, or chapped during healing.
  • Peeling commonly begins around days 3–4 and is a normal part of the healing process.
  • Additional aftercare ointment may be applied as needed during this stage.
  • Do not pick, peel, or remove flaking skin, as this can affect healed results and pigment retention.
  • Permanent makeup is a process and may require more than one session to achieve desired results.
