BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

PREPARING FOR YOUR SMP APPOINTMENT

Your health history must be completed prior to scheduling your consultation and procedure appointment. Some medical conditions may require physician clearance before treatment can be performed.

If your health history changes at any time between your consultation, procedure, follow-up, or future maintenance sessions, please notify us immediately. Failure to disclose changes in your health history may require your appointment to be rescheduled and reserved treatment time may be charged.

To ensure optimal pigment retention and healing, please follow all preparation instructions regarding medications, hair growth products, scalp preparation, and appointment-day guidelines.

  • Some medical conditions may require a doctor's release.
  • Your health history must be completed before booking your consultation and procedure appointment.
  • Your health history will be reviewed to determine whether physician clearance or a waiting period is required.
  • If your health history changes between your consultation, procedure, follow-up appointment, or future sessions, you must notify The Micropigment Studio.
  • Failure to disclose changes in your health history may result in your appointment being rescheduled and charges may apply for reserved treatment time.
  • Discontinue Minoxidil, Rogaine, and hair growth serums 7–10 days before treatment.
  • Hair fibers and concealers should be discontinued at least 24 hours before your session.
  • Finasteride (Propecia) and other oral medications may typically be continued, but always consult your prescribing physician before stopping any prescription medication.
  • Discontinuing topical products helps improve pigment retention, supports scalp health, and reduces the risk of excessive bleeding or pigment migration during treatment.
  • Topical hair growth products can typically be resumed 14–30 days after your final SMP session.
  • Avoid aspirin for 5 days before treatment unless otherwise directed by your physician.
  • Tylenol may be taken one hour before your appointment if needed.
  • Avoid fish oil, fish products, alcohol, and coffee for 24–48 hours before treatment.
  • Stay well hydrated.
  • Avoid sunburn before and after treatment.
  • Use sunscreen if you expect prolonged sun exposure.
  • Do not wet shave within 24 hours of your appointment.
  • Cut hair to a zero guard for full scalp treatments.
  • Use an electric shaver only.
  • A gentle exfoliating scrub may be used for approximately 5 days before treatment on bald scalp areas.
  • Apply moisturizer 2–3 times daily before your appointment.
  • Eat a meal before your session.
  • Feel free to bring snacks and beverages.
  • Sessions typically last 3–4 hours.
  • You are welcome to bring reference photos.
  • Arrive with a freshly washed scalp on the day of treatment.
  • Avoid aspirin for 5 days before treatment unless otherwise directed by your physician.
  • Tylenol may be taken one hour before your appointment if needed.
  • Avoid fish oil, fish products, alcohol, and coffee for 24–48 hours before treatment.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wait at least 7 days after coloring your hair before receiving treatment.
  • Avoid sunburn before and after treatment.
  • Eat a meal before your appointment.
  • Feel free to bring snacks and beverages.
  • Arrive with freshly washed hair and scalp.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

HEALING & AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Proper aftercare is essential for achieving the best possible scalp micropigmentation results. Following the recommended healing guidelines helps support pigment retention, protects the treated area, and reduces the risk of complications during recovery.

Healing requirements may vary depending on whether you receive a full scalp treatment, partial scalp treatment, or a density filler treatment. It is important to follow the aftercare instructions that apply to your specific procedure and avoid activities that may interfere with the healing process.

Please review the detailed aftercare information below, including healing timelines, washing instructions, activity restrictions, and important signs and symptoms to monitor during recovery.

Days 1–4

  • Do not touch or wash the scalp.
  • Avoid activities that cause excessive sweating for 5–7 days.
  • Do not use shampoo, dry shampoo, serums, or moisturizers.
  • Avoid direct sunlight.
  • Avoid swimming pools, oceans, lakes, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, and jacuzzis for 30 days.
  • Do not wet shave for at least 10 days.
  • Use an electric shaver only if needed.
  • Sleep on clean pillowcases.

 

Beginning Day 5

  • Wash gently with cool water and sulfate-free, paraben-free shampoo.
  • Moisturize up to three times daily if needed.
  • Avoid growing hair excessively long between sessions.
  • Continue using only an electric shaver.
  • Clean hats may be worn.
  • Continue using clean pillowcases.
  • Do not scratch the scalp during healing.

Days 1–4

  • Do not touch the scalp.
  • Do not wash your hair.
  • Do not apply styling products.
  • Do not use dry shampoo.
  • Avoid excessive sweating for 5–7 days.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, oceans, lakes, steam rooms, and saunas for 30 days.
  • If hair must be styled, use a damp comb without wetting the scalp.
  • Sleep on clean pillowcases.

 

Beginning Day 5

  • Wash gently using cool water and a sulfate-free, paraben-free shampoo.
  • Wait 4 weeks before coloring your hair after treatment.
  • Mild redness and swelling are normal during the first 24–48 hours.
  • Excessive swelling, increasing discomfort, or pain extending beyond the treatment area may indicate infection.
  • Fever may be a sign of infection and should not be ignored.
  • Seek medical attention immediately if infection is suspected.
  • Contact The Micropigment Studio after seeking medical care.
